Description

Focus Entertainment and Black Screen Records have once again teamed up to celebrate the A Plague Tale series and its unrivalled soundtracks by Olivier Derivière – this time for the release of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. The physical soundtrack will be released as a double-LP set, pressed on remarkable “Minoan Sphere” vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve.

Resonance is the third instalment in the A Plague Tale series, a franchise widely praised and awarded for its emotional storytelling, artistic direction, and musical achievements. This chapter, however, marks a significant departure in both setting and historical context, transporting players to Greece across two distinct time periods: the Middle Ages and the Minoan civilization.

The score embraces a mystical and emotional identity, seamlessly moving between instrumental music and original songs for which Olivier Derivière composed both the music and the lyrics. The goal was to create a musical language that could express both the intimacy of the characters and the grandeur of the world they inhabit.

The instrumentation blends ancient traditions with a contemporary cinematic approach. Olivier collaborated with world-class musicians throughout the project. Evgenios Voulgaris performed the yayli tambur alongside a collection of traditional Greek and Ottoman instruments. Vasiliki Anastasiou and Giorgos Kalogirou brought extraordinary performances as solo vocalists, while the 20-voice female Amalgamation Choir, combined with large percussion ensembles, gave the score a powerful and distinctive sonic identity.

Because the project called for original songs, Olivier also wrote the lyrics. He began by writing them in English before working with Vasiliki Anastasiou, who translated them into Cypriot Greek.

The music was recorded by Andreas Matheou at Hot Soap Studios (Cyprus), Alexandros Kakaroumpas at Krama Studio (Patras, Greece), Mikaela Tsangari at Elbow Room Studio (Nicosia, Cyprus), and Jérôme Devoise at the Chapelle des Carmélites (Toulouse, France). Together with mixing engineer Jérôme Devoise, we devoted considerable time to ensuring that every recording and every mix preserved the nuance and delicacy of the performances. The score was mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Shawn Hatfield at AudibleOddities (San Francisco, USA).
